The San Benito Historical Society invites the public to a roundtable discussion of the city?s history on Tuesday, March 19.

Set for 6 p.m. inside the Community Building auditorium, located at 210 E. Heywood St., Windows to the Past, a monthly speaker series hosted by the historical society, will feature members of the community and their memories of San Benito.

Specifically, charming anecdotes and historical accounts will be shared by Bill Elliott, former San Benito City Commissioner and Economic Development Corporation Board President; Ernestine Neely, Maxine Dodson, Mary Catherine Lovett, Dick Welch and more.

Topics of discussion will include Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital, Stonewall Jackson, the old train depot, movie theaters, five and dime stores and more. Winter Texans are also encouraged to attend in hopes of learning more about the Resaca City?s storied past. In fact, San Benito Historical Society President Tootie Madden stressed on Monday that residents offer their personal thoughts and recollections of all things San Benito.

The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served free of charge.

Prior Windows to the Past events have drawn as many as 75 people and ranged in theme from wildlife in the Rio Grande Valley to local African American history.

Madden further encouraged residents to visit Resaca Books and Gifts, the official gift store of the San Benito History Museum, also located inside the Community Building. There, one can find Greyhound memorabilia, historical items and artifacts of businesses that no longer exist in San Benito. Two display cases also contain items donated from Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital.

For more information on Windows to the Past, the book store and more, call (956) 399-6032 or (956) 399-2704.
